To the AIM Community,
We feel compelled to write a few words regarding the disturbing surge in anti-Asian hate crimes across the globe. We acknowledge that racism exists in Canada and condemn all explicit and implicit expressions of it within our institution and elsewhere.
As a white business owner of a Traditional Chinese Medicine school, I acknowledge that I must work to embed anti-racist policies into the core of our institution and create a safe space for all of our clients, students, and staff. We are committed to anti-racism and promise to educate ourselves and the members of our community. As such, we are taking the following measures:
- We will be revising our Acupuncture program curriculum to include anti-racist and anti-oppression principles in our Ethics and Jurisprudence course.
- We have revamped our Anti-Discrimination policy (found on our website) and will be including this in our faculty and student handbooks. The policy states that “AIM Academy prohibits discrimination or harassment and protects the right to be free from hate activity based on age, ancestry, citizenship, creed (religion), disability, ethnic origin, family status, gender identity, literacy, marital status, place of origin, political affiliation, race, sex, sexual orientation or any other personal characteristic by or within the organization.”
- We will take measures to ensure that our hiring and admissions processes prioritize diversity and inclusion, and we will educate future and current students and staff on the importance of our anti-discrimination policy. To accomplish this, we will include the Anti-Discrimination policy in the student and faculty handbooks and foster discussions of the policy throughout the hiring and admissions processes.
- We have a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination within our institution and we take appropriate measures to condemn any such actions.
