Instructor: DANIEL ADLER, R.Ac, DIRECTOR OF SHIATSU THERAPY PROGRAM
After my first class in Zen Shiatsu in January 1999, my teacher told me to practice.
“How often should practice?” I asked. “Every day” was his answer. So began 10 years of training in Zen Shiatsu, the art and practice of bodywork which has become a way of being for me.
I feel fortunate to have been taught by a traditionally-minded teacher, even if it meant facing my youthful arrogance and ignorance on a daily basis. Through experience, and with the careful guidance of my teacher, my joy in this healing art took root. My awareness of Zen Shiatsu’s simple power and effectiveness formed. In those 10 years I learned about Zen Shiatsu as a therapy and as a profession. I also learned how essential it is to cultivate self-awareness and compassion on the practitioner’s path.
I have been teaching Zen Shiatsu for 14 years. In 2012 I began teaching at AIM Academy where I have enjoyed teaching courses in Diagnosis and Pattern Differentiation as well as Channel Theory, Zen Shiatsu 1,2 and 3 and Shiatsu 101.
I am thrilled to now be directing the Shiatsu Diploma Programme at AIM Academy. It holds a vital place for the traditional healing arts in Canada. It is strongly rooted in practice which is the essence of traditional training, blended with rigorous study of Shiatsu Theory and anatomy, physiology and pathology, which are important to a modern medical practice.
Zen Shiatsu is a life-affirming practice. For the student it offers a unique chance to develop oneself physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. For the practitioner it offers the chance to continue this development as one works to be at the service of others. And for the patient it offers relief from the pains and sufferings of life and the ability to generate health and vitality. I am looking forward to doing this work with you.
